BOTANICAL RESEARCH AND CONSERVATION

Research, work with experts in studies about: restoration, conservation, and documentation of results and research of related sciences to ecology.

The project

On February, 2005, after a long process and a big effort of the Quito Orchid Association, the botanical garden opened it´s doors to the public. The objective of it is to become the referent of conservation and environmental education, focused on the Ecuadorian flora.

 It aims to be a center of research, conservation and exhibition of the native flora, principally of the species at risk of extinction as well as an educational center on these aspects. It offers adequate space for researchers, technicians and students with a research project that contributes to the knowledge of natural and cultural heritage, and its conservation

 

Dates/Length

Project available year-round. 3 months to a year duration available.

Location details

The project location is in Quito. Accommodation is with a local host family and it includes 2 meals per day: breakfast and dinner

 

Requirements

Spanish level: Independent user B1, must be 18 and over, with valid passport and health insurance

 

Itinerary

Mondays to Fridays                                                                                                  8:00 am to 4:45 pm

Saturday and Sunday (optional):                                                                               9:00 am to 4:45 pm

Time will be divided into different activities the center offers: spaces maintenance (gardening), tours with groups, restoration, conservation, documentation of results and research.

 

 

 

Role of the volunteer

Assist in the activities the institution offers, like spaces maintenance (gardening), tours with groups, restoration, conservation, documentation of results and research.

 

Skills required

No special experience is required. Applicants should have enterprising spirit, flexible personality, caring, dynamic, and responsible.
