The project
Ecuadorian nonprofit & non-governmental organization (NGO) that works on coordination with public and private institutions in social and politic incidence to promote rights of gay, lesbian, transsexual, bisexual and inter-sexual populations.
Another important area they work on is the HIV/AIDS prevention.
This NGO wants to promote sexual health, and reduce or eliminate sex orientation, gender identity or HIV/AIDS prejudice and discrimination acts.
Working areas:
Shelter: This project stems from the need of all those LGBTI people who have had the need to leave their country for political, religious or cultural issues and find a warm place where they can stay mentally and physically safe.
Community center: Open to the public in general, organization of workshops, movie´s afternoon, forums, yoga, handcrafts, games, karaoke, etc
HIV/AIDS prevention: Free, voluntary, safe and discreet HIV/AIDS tests. Support in case of a positive diagnosis. Education, sensitization and prevention campaigns.
Medical service: On specific schedules, the foundation offers medical attention free or low cost, free of discrimination.
Legal assistance: For people who have suffered violence and/or discrimination, lawyers of the foundation help them to realize the complaint and the whole legal process.
Psychological area: The psychotherapeutic intervention can occur at the individual, couple or family level.

Location/ Accommodation
The project location is in Quito. Accommodation in Quito is with a local host family and it includes 2 meals per day: breakfast and dinner

Spanish level: A1.
Must be 18 and over, with valid passport and health insurance

If you take Spanish classes:
It is necessary to have less working hours so you can study two hours for 3 days a week. This would be from 15:00 to 17:00.
Role of the participant
Assist at the shelter, create, plan and apply different activities for and with them, like sports, workshops, movies, among others. Learn and assist the professionals of the foundation in the areas they require. Plan and attend as NGO staff to the prevention and education campaigns.
Skills required
Applicants should be open, flexible, patient, caring passionate, creative and come with a spirit of collaboration and solidarity. Capacity of working under pressure. The number one qualification is the willingness to learn and help.
